Green with Envy

Me and my neighborhood girls are always up for a good competition when it comes to the summer picnic dessert contest. Last year I thought for sure I had won when they said "Tina" ..and then used some other last name which I won't repeat becuase bad PR is still good PR. Anyway I still have nightmares about the " OMG I won" moment and then the "OMG wrong Tina!" My friend Delois took second place the little... anyway, she had her year of glory. Fast forward to the Harkness Heights dessert contest 2008. I thought if I did a trendy cupcake ( it's the fad these days in West Hollywood) I was a shoe in. I also thought if I could secretly win over the kids I had it in the bag! So I spent hour upon hour upon friggin' frog hours baking and frosting and licking and frosting and licking and sticking and getting all sticky and yucky and green yuck muck frosting in my hair and nails and...oh sorry. So anyway, I carry this big giant lilly pad of a tray with all my frog cakes proudly on display. I think I heard Delois say something like " you're gonna win this year" or something like that ( I think but I'm not sure- there were too many people cooing over my cupcakes at the time...) anyway, Lisa shows up with her homemade icecream sandwiches becuase she claims she's not a baker but we both know that there's no excuse with that gourmet kitchen of hers plus I think she made cookies once. Delois brought...wow I can't remember right now. What was it? Oh well, maybe next year she'll do something more memorable. Let's get to the judging shall we? We have some ugly blue pie, a few tartlets and chocolate torts and tats....I'm so in because I spent hours on mine!

I friggin' lost to the ugly blue pie. It was a masacre. (I was so bitter there was green bile coming out of my mouth I think.) Some 9 year old girl won it- brilliant! I hope she kisses alot of frogs before she finds her....
